Description
In the first year (2022) of the project, we aim to study the fate and effects of microplastics, nanoplastics and additives from the fishing gears used in the Bay of Biscay in the Bay of Biscay. To do this by 1) studying the composition and quantity of fishing nets used in the Bay of Biscay. 2) Beginning to evaluate the degradation dynamics of in situ and in a controlled area to quantify microplastics, nanoplastics and chemical production in marine water and chemical production in seawater. 3) Characterising some ecotoxicological effects on marine bacteria and Orzyas sp. 4) Conduct a primary study of the bio-colonisation of fishing nets.
Applicability/impact of the results:
Depending on the new grant we will be able to create a better network on the ground (as we will be able to travel more often and further), especially in terms of information management, especially with fishermen and fishermen's organisations and circular economy companies that will allow us to get better empirical information and to have a better integrated project.
